Topiramate and Kidney Stones?
Dear Dr. Phelps: I am seriously thinking of switching my medicine for
my bipolar symptoms from depakote to topamax because of the weight gain.
Can you tell me what the odds are of me getting kidney stones on this medication.
My doctor has told me of this risk on the medication. What is your opinion?

Risk of stones on topiramate is 1.5% of those
who take it -- in the range of 1 person in a hundred. If you drink
a lot of fluid, that reduces the risk. Here's the reference:
