Q: Insomnia Still a Problem
I'm concerned about getting addicted to sleeping pills. I have been
taking Sonata. I also have taken Trazadone and neurontin to help with sleep.
How do you address sleeping problems in BP people?
My overall mood has been better since I have switched from neurontin to
Trileptal, but insomnia is still a problem. Thanks.
Amy
Dear Amy --
In general I keep adding mood stabilizers (increase the dose or add another)
until people can sleep without any extra medications just for sleep, because
usually if they're still having trouble sleeping, they're still having other
signs (sometimes pretty subtle) of mood instability. That has worked
really well for me in terms of helping people find a regimen that will prevent
episodes for long periods of time.
